My recycling art is for me a connection between the glass and the drawings.
Made from found materials and often supplemented with glass, fused, stained or engraved.
I let the materials tell their story. Collect first, then take a good look, look again. Especially old objects that have their own history and bear their traces of it appeal to me and stimulate my imagination.
Part of the opening address of the "Wonderland" exhibition on 5 May 2019 by Alexander de Vries:
"Before you try to bring some material to life you must try to understand it. Not the purpose, but the inner side of it. Objects, especially old ones, have witnessed all kinds of events and lives and bear the traces of them. People have touched them in different situations and with different feelings and left their state of mind behind. If you want to make their hidden content visible, listen to them. Sometimes for years. You must first become a collector and only then start creating.
Bringing materials to life must follow a natural process. It must come from the materials and not from your wishes. Never violate material! It is not the idea that initiates the creative process, the idea is the part of the creative process ..."
And with that I agree .......
